Meeting with Aurore Thuault

Aurore is an art embroiderer in Beaulieu-sous-la-Roche. Before meeting her in her workshop, the word “embroidery” evoked memories of my childhood above all. I saw my grandmother, her drum in her hand, composing little country paintings in cross stitch. But here, in the middle of Aurore's colorful universe, I quickly realize that art embroidery goes much further than I could have imagined...

I've had my first surprise by discovering in the workshop the paintings of his "Unkragled" series, composed of Lego® bricks embroidered with needle and my second surprise when I asked Aurore what material she preferred to embroider and she answered “metal”.

First impressions

Aurore's face expresses concentration. With precise and rapid gestures, her fingers catch tiny golden pearls, black tubes, copper strips. According to a well-defined order, she slides these small components on a thread using a fine needle.

Under my eyes emerges what Aurore calls " a module ". A filigree 3D construction that does not need a fabric support to exist and that will form refined earrings.

His career

For Aurore, the path to embroidery was long and winding. After a fairly classic background in applied foreign languages and international trade, she felt the need to work with her hands and reoriented herself towards crafts.

Following training in sewing, drawing, hand embroidery and art embroidery, she perfected her techniques and completed her knowledge. Then follow several years of intense work in the embroidery workshops and Haute Couture houses in Paris.

Appreciating this universe, however, Aurore decides to move away from it momentarily to devote herself to her own creations. The way is thus free for tests and research as well technical as artistic which will give astonishing results.

At the end of 2021, Aurore Thuault opened her workshop in the Cour des Arts à Beaulieu-sous-la-Roche.

At the 2023 Ateliers d'Art de France Competition, Aurore was nominated regional winner Pays de la Loire then national winner in the “Creation” category for her piece “Luna 1 Gold”.
