Yes, there are two in Vendée! The Marais Poitevin et the Breton Marsh are the result of development work carried out for centuries and were only accessible for a long time by small boat. Despite their many commonalities, our two Vendée marshes will surprise you by their very different colors and atmospheres.

The Marais poitevin

Covering an area of 112 hectares, the Marais Poitevin is a natural region of France in the south of the department, straddling the Vendée, Deux-Sèvres and Charente-Maritime. The exceptional biodiversity of this Regional natural park and the variety of its landscapes make it an exceptional territory and give it its Grand Site de France label.

Did you know?

The term " Green Venice » refers to the easternmost part of the wet marshes, therefore only a small part of the Regional Natural Park. Its veritable labyrinth of canals and lush vegetation make it a unique place in Vendée, to be explored by boat, on foot or by bike.

Located south of Fontenay-le-Comte, the “Green Venice” is the busiest part of the Marais Poitevin. Opt for a boat trip on the canals with a guide-boatman. He will tell you the story of this exceptional natural environment and will certainly reveal the secret of fire on water!

The Marais Breton Vendée

Located in the North of Vendée and on the borders of Loire-Atlantique, the Breton Vendée marshes, also called “Marô” in the patois maraîchin, is a large wetland of 45 hectares, classified Natura 000. Environmental preservation and eco-tourism are two pillars of Marô activity.

Notre coup de cœur:

To discover the wild beauty of its canals, we particularly appreciate canoeing. The Salt Route near Sallertaine offer many formulas. On a guided or independent outing, ranging from a first discovery of the landscapes by canoe to the unforgettable experience of a two-day bivouac outing.

We loved the twilight outing we did! Canoeing, discover the canals, their history and the abbey of Ile Chauvet. To finish, a typical Vendéen meal "à la bonne franquette" awaits you in a small house with a thatched roof. Bellies full, we set off again in a canoe under the stars, just with the light of the moon! Magical, unusual!
