Located in the western part of the Pays des Achards in Vendée, the commune of Saint-Julien-des-Landes take advantage of the proximity of Jaunay Lake. A major natural area of the territory, it offers numerous opportunities for outdoor leisure activities.
With four campings on this left bank of the Jaunay Lake and the presence of nature leisure park The Grand Défi, Saint-Julien-des-Landes is a town strongly oriented towards tourism.
Outdoor activities
Largest treetop adventure park in the world, The Grand Défi attracts more than 100 visitors per year! We appreciate its numerous courses of different levels installed in a large forest and its zip lines over the ponds. The activities offered are numerous and varied, thus corresponding to a wide audience. Trail games, pony rides, paintball, disc golf, an aquapark open in summer – everyone finds their own challenge to take on!
At Lac du Jaunay, fishing is practiced all year round on the banks. The lake is famous for its pike, zander, roach, carp, bream and perch. It is also possible to rent pedal boats, canoes and kayaks for nautical activities in summer on the lake. A slipway located at a place called La Baudrière allows you to launch your own boat.
Finally, Garangeoire equestrian center is a good address for horse riding enthusiasts, but also for equine beginners. State-certified instructors emphasize ethical and animal-friendly riding.
Hiking in Saint-Julien-des-Landes
The walking trails
Around the town, several hiking trails run along the banks of Lac du Jaunay. They sometimes surprise with their steep appearance.
Le Guyonnière Trail is located only on the left bank. As for the trails Coteaux du Lac et villages, they join the right bank and go around the eastern part of the lake.
For all those who prefer to discover nature in a fun way, three trails Geocaching leave from the place called La Baudrière. They combine walking with a new generation treasure hunt.
Cycling routes
La Vendée Vélo cycle path passes near the town. It allows you to reach the Plage de la Parée in Brétignolles-sur-Mer in the North-West as well as the town of Achards in the South-East. From Les Achards, you can extend the route to Les Sables d'Olonne, as well as to La Roche-sur-Yon.
This route crosses the Fief of the Tree Frogs. It is a leisure area appreciated by the inhabitants of the town for its facilities, including a playground, but also for the cultural events and festive evenings which often take place there.
