La Mothe-Achard is located in the heart of the Pays des Achards in Vendée. It is here that we feel the economic dynamism of our territory the most. Since the merger with its neighbor La Chapelle-Achard in 2017, it is part of the new municipality “The Pickles”.
La Mothe-Achard is appreciated for its practical aspect because it benefits from two major advantages in terms of mobility: Located near the La Roche-sur-Yon – Les Sables d'Olonne expressway, it is also served by the SNCF line between Nantes and Les Sables d’Olonne.

The origins of the La Mothe-Achard district are lost in prehistory. Its name comes from the Middle Ages, evoking the feudal motte and a lord Achard, master of the place. Beneath its modern appearance, the La Mothe-Achard district hides memories of a rich past. The historical built heritage is quite discreet but reveals itself to visitors who know how to look closely. These are often details on facades and roofs which indicate a bourgeois house or a former commercial activity. There Old Castle Square, Saint-Jacques Church, Washing of Trials, Domaine de Brandois and the characteristic building halls stand out in this urban fabric.

What to do in La Mothe-Achard?
On the leisure side, the Aquatic Center of the Pays des Achards offers opportunities for sport and relaxation. A short, quiet walk allows you to discover the Bibrou lake. The fountain on the edge recalls the time when the Bibrou was a source which supplied the town with water. People also come there to picnic, fish and play Disc golf, a sport practiced with discs similar to frisbees and inspired by the rules of golf.
In 2023, the Escape Game « The post » settled in the area of activity. This establishment surprises with its theme of police investigations and its complete immersion in the scenario. Even trained players will find new challenges to take on!
Finally, the Vendée Vélo cycle path runs along part of the Bibrou lake and the town of the commune. It thus makes it possible to join La Roche-sur-Yon (31 km), Brétignolles-sur-Mer (18 km) and Les Sables d’Olonne (24 km).

The Domaine de Brandois
In 1869, Baron de Brandois had the “Château de la Forêt” built in a neo-Gothic style. At the beginning of the 1920s, the premises were transformed into an agricultural school to accommodate students for several decades. In 2006, new owners created a hotel-restaurant under the name “Domaine de Brandois” which will be bought in 2021 by two partners who will give it a new operation.
Today, the Domaine de Brandois is rent for events (weddings, seminars, meetings etc.) with a tailor-made service. In 2023, the restaurant “ The cafeteria » opened its doors in the redecorated salons of the castle. The restaurant offers traditional cuisine revisited in a quirky and warm atmosphere.
