I have lived in Les Achards for about ten years and I vaguely knew Beaulieu-sous-la-Roche. I knew that there were craftsmen who lived there, but I was far from imagining their diversity! It was last summer that I really discovered the village. During the Estiv'Arts, I signed up for a workshopintroduction to craftsmanship with Marie-Hélène Flandrois, without really knowing what to expect… And I loved it!

My meeting

It was really THE meeting with an exciting woman, un passionate upholsterer!

Yes, I learned that Marie-Hélène is an upholsterer and not an upholsterer, even if it's weird. If I have retained the history lesson correctly, it was King Louis XIII who codified the profession of upholsterer, which has kept its masculine form. The upholsterer is the one who takes care of the sewing of upholstery.

Expertise

Everything that comes out of Marie-Hélène's workshop is handmade. She mainly renovates and modernizes seats entrusted to her by private individuals. She strips, shapes upholstery, installs new fabrics and finishes. What is great is to see how with ancestral techniques, she obtains surprising and modern results. You really have to have a hand and an eye for colors!

It can be seen that Marie-Hélène likes to pass on and share her taste for craftsmanship. For her, the meeting is essential! She received us in small groups in her workshop, but also gives lessons outside.

It also made me want to meet the other craftsmen. So, I'm watching for the next dates of Estiv'Arts to return to Beaulieu this summer!

Give free rein to your curiosity and set off to meet Marie-Hélène and her universe. Passion, know-how and sympathy will be there!
