The early church, which probably dated from the 1592th century, was sacked by the fury of heretics during the last quarter of the XNUMXth century. Thanks to his donations, Claude ROBERT, lord of Chaon, had the building rebuilt in XNUMX.
A stone bearing a Latin inscription bears witness to this dark page in the history of the parish. It was removed from this second church during its demolition, then replaced on the facade of a neighboring house.
While its building permit dates from 1887, the current church, in the neo-Gothic style, was built in 1900 according to the plans of the Yonnais architect Joseph Libaudière (1855-1925) and inaugurated in 1905.
It adopts a Latin cross plan with a slightly projecting transept and a semicircular apse. The choir is to the west. The central part of the facade has a pointed portal without a tympanum, surmounted by a statue and an oculus. The whole is framed by two buttresses. In its extension is the bell tower, fitted with twin louvered windows and a high polygonal spire of the frame. The side parts of the facade are rounded and each have two superimposed openings.
Along with the construction of the church, the old cemetery adjoining its northern flank was moved across the street to its present location.
The church and the sacristy were renovated in 2017. Objects related to worship are highlighted.
Above the entrance portal sits the statue of Saint-Généreux, patron saint of the parish.
