The origin of this church dates back to the 12th century, probably as an old castle chapel. Remodeled several times over the centuries, the building has retained parts of the 12th and 13th centuries.

The last major restoration decided in 1862, concerned in particular the construction of the bell tower and the choir vault. Built in tufa stone, the upper part of the bell tower turned out to be of poor quality. Work to renovate the bell tower and reconstruct the spire was therefore undertaken in 1998 under the supervision and direction of a departmental architect from Bâtiments de France. The bell tower was rebuilt identically, but with Richemont stones, a harder and more resistant material than tuffeau. The bell tower and spire are illuminated every night and greet residents and visitors.

Only the bases of the choir with their small Romanesque arched bays and two apsidioles with central bays from the 16th or 17th century remain of the old building. The Saint-Joseph chapel, which probably dates from the 17th century, has three original capitals. On the fourth capital as well as on the keystone, we see an anchored cross, the coat of arms of the family of Sainte Flayve who had this chapel built.

This work was completed by the installation of lighting for the bell tower and the spire which pleasantly illuminate the building each night.

On the historic capitals carved from local granite, you will discover three of the seven deadly sins. On the right near the Saint-Joseph Altar, gluttony is represented by a character with enormous cheeks. On the left near the choir pillar, pride is symbolized by a character with highlighted eyes and a haughty attitude. And on the left as you enter near the door, you will see a crowned man carrying a purse around his neck, representing avarice. The other four sins can be seen in the church of Saint-Georges-de-Pointindoux, smaller in size, but sculpted in the same stone and probably coming from the imagination of the same craftsman.
