Find Yvan Mercier, ironworker and sculptor, in his workshop in Beaulieu-sous-la-Roche (this charming village of Vendée art is nicknamed "Beaulieu des Arts" because here, around ten craftsmen and craftsmen live together. cultural businesses).
Passionate about volumes and metalworking, he combines sculpture and forging in his creations. His vision as a sculptor is inspired by the heritage of ancient Greece, the cradle of European art and thought. His work as an artistic ironworker is based on more than fifteen years of experience and in particular in his specialization in the Art Deco style of 1920.
Passionate autodidact, he constantly studies the volume in the art of sculpture and that of the science of metals, his research led him to forge steel, copper, bronze, silver and gold. He recently succeeded in transcribing the molecular migration of gold into an alloy, a process used by the Incas.
He creates a collection in bronze with a casting technique that he developed, giving an aspect of erosion and an archaeological vision of his work. Also forging copper in monumental sculpture, he uses the technique used to create the Statue of Liberty. He creates portraits and busts from models or photos and finally offers a collection in low relief.
Yvan Mercier offers sculpture lessons at the Beaulieu sous la Roche art school, every Monday afternoon, from 14 to 17 p.m.
